Funeral services for Carl R. “Poppy” Bassinger, Sr., of Springhill, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Bailey Mortuary Chapel with Bro. Greg Griffith officiating. Burial, with full military graveside rites, were held in the Old Sarepta Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill.

Mr. Basssinger, a lifelong resident of this area, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in Minden.

He was a member of the Pentecostal Church, a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army and was a retired employee of International Paper Company.

He is preceded in death by brothers, Frank Bassinger, Jr., Murphy Bassinger, John D. Bassinger, Nolan Bassinger and James Bassinger; sisters, Marjorie Burks, Florence Morgan and Lela Staggs; and, a great-granddaughter, Amber Ludlam.

He is survived by sons, Carl R. “Rudy” Bassinger, Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Springhill; Carl E. “Jay” Bassinger of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughters, Kathy Griffin and husband, David of Fayetteville, Ark., Shannon Bassinger of Springhill and Carla Bledsoe and husband, Kip of Frisco, Texas; sisters, Joyce Boyette of Shreveport and Carolyn Palmer of Sarepta; brothers, Billy Bassinger of Trinity, Texas and Eugene Bassinger of West Memphis, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 5 until 8 p.m., Friday, March 5, at Bailey Mortuary.
