William “Bill” David Basinger, age 84, of Trinity, Texas went to be with the Lord on December 16, 2011. In September of 1927 he was born at home as one of 14 children to Maggie Ola Bullock and James "Frank" Basinger, Sr. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as Private First Class in 1952. In July of 1954, he married his best friend, Clara Louise, and was blessed with three children, Anna and husband John Lowe, William “Billy” Basinger, and Colleen Basinger. He is also survived by his devoted grandchildren, Kathy and Conan Massey, Charles and Gena Myers, Michael “Mike” and Michele Myers, Hesper “Jo” and Jared Storms, Summer Basinger, and Samuel “Sam” Basinger. His legacy also includes 11 great-grandchildren.
He found his life calling as a security guard at Westwood Shores, where he finally retired in 2010. This was his second career, after being an electrician in Pasadena, Texas. He was such a late bloomer, that he was baptized at the age of 84, where his church mentor and wife was in attendance. He was a good man who leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness and love. He loved a good story and told many. He was the heart of his family and will be missed.
Bill is survived by his brother and sisters Joyce Levoria Basinger Boyett, George Eugene "Gene" Basinger, Sr., and Carrie Ola "Carolyn" Basinger Palmer; and preceded in death by his brothers and sisters Leola Basinger Staggs, James Thomas Basinger, Florance Flora Basinger Morgan, Murphie Howell Basinger, Nolan Willis Basinger, Marjorie Lucille Basinger Burks
